Save the fish!!!

So I was watching this documentary called The End of the Line : A World with out Fish
Basically, its  telling us how were consuming the world fish population and by the year 2050 there will be no more fish in existence!! This means that our oceans are going to be dead, there is research evidence that the oceans absorb the CO2 levels of the atmosphere. With out the oceanic buffer global warming will increase massively.

Most of the fishes are being fished for commercial purposes unnecessarily and most of them go to waste, the top sushi and other restaurants all serve endangered species! and the public doesn't even know it what was cool was that at the end of the movie there are some ways to stop this from happening by

  • -buying only fish stamped with the label Sustainable Fish, and
  • -buying and asking in restaurants about legally fished fish
  • -pressuring corporations to stop massacring the oceans !

Here's an article about the Sustainability issue by the Guardian . every one needs to go out there and check out this documentary, it should be in libraries.

Something to think about...

The disintegration of a people is the disintegration of their society and social standards.

You can tell the decline of a civilization by looking at the trends the society falls in. We all know of the comparison of the US to the Roman empire. A perfect example of this disintegration is in the school systems of our country. Not only is there a lack of education but there is also rampant racism and prejudice. I'm not talking about the students here, I'm talking about the teachers. just because you have a poster up on the wall saying no racism doesn't mean that you are acting on it. What is even more surprising is that this school is actually in a town that cant spell the word diversity even though it has a good 500 Muslims in it.
What is even sadder is that the majority white Anglo Saxon teachers that are present in this town abuse the word equality. When you treat white students with much more attention and sympathy than non white students you are not being equal. When you give the minority the cold shoulder, as a teacher and educator you are being a bigot.
I guess there are still places in America that are unaware of the term culture, or diversity. The only kind of people they have seen is people like them white Anglo-Saxon. Just because you bring in an exhibit about different races and how not different they are does not make you culturally diverse. Cultural diversity is not only the appreciation of Mexican or Indian food. Its treating people who are different then you just as equally and sympathetically as you would treat yourself and people like you. There are plenty of problems in our country that need to be fixed, you cant remove problems you resolve them. Perhaps the problem is not just that there is rampant racism in our world but that we continue to allow it to exist. Maybe one should not just complain about the school they visited in order to shadow a teacher but rather change it one step at a time. Maybe diversity comes not from talking about it but experiencing and understanding different people and different culture.. having an open mind. This is not just for our generation but for the generation after us, the aftermath of a corrupt society hurts everyone directly and indirectly.
Perhaps our president should use the millions of dollars spend on the trip to Asia (to diversify his view on the world) to people at home to diversify their view and eradicate racism at home.

The Greatness of GOD - ALLAH

An Amazing spoken word piece by One Legacy Radio, the voice of AmirAbdel Malik, makes you think and then think again about the power and the profound manifestation of our creator. Makes one reflect on how minuscule we are in comparison to his prowess, his greatness and his magnificence.

Amazingly thought provoking MashaAllah!!

Muslim Holocaust - An upcoming atrocity in our lifetime.

"The Muslim" is on trial on the news lately.

Ground zero mosque in New York, Quran burnings in Florida, Mosque vandalized in California, no Hijab at the Disney workplace, Is it right to celebrate Eid on 9/11, Man stabbed in New York for being Muslim, the issues go on. Does any one else see the change in our times?

Through out history the oppressor first scapegoats a people, globalizes propaganda against them by putting them  or their values on trial and then persecutes them. Case in point the Vietnam war, the Holocaust, Iraq invasion. It seems like the first of these steps is done with, and the propaganda is being spread to the extent that now it is not common for the average man in America to think, " those Afghan woman and children deserved what they got -those terrorists." or a more common one on the Pakistan relief Youtube videos " why should we help them, give them aid when they bomb our country." It is now a battle between "US" versus "THEM". A really good article by Eleanor Clift

Do We Care? - Floods in Pakistan

[ Boston Globe ]
Twenty Million people with out homes, with out food, water and clothing. Over Sixteen hundred people dead.

Seems like just numbers doesn't it.

Although, the floods in Pakistan are the biggest humanitarian crises in recent years - bigger than the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 or the earthquake in Haiti, according to the United Nations. Not to mention that a majority of the affected are Muslims.

But then, I have home, I have car, water,  food, a nice life I depend on. So what if people from my Ummah dont have food to break fast with, I have samosas, haleem, fruit chaat, lassi. So what if they are dying of thirst and hunger. So, what if their hunger doesn't end at sundown. So what.

Most of us will probably go on with our lives after reading this as we have after reading about most calls for help to aid Pakistan. The sad thing is that the fire of hunger, and the dryness of thirst will still be there in the half a million people affected.

Allah says in a Hadith Qudsi,
O son of Adam, I fell ill and you visited Me not. He will say: O Lord, and how should I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so had fallen ill and you visited him not? Did you not know that had you visited him you would have found Me with him? O son of Adam, I asked you for food and you fed Me not. He will say: O Lord, and how should I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so asked you for food and you fed him not? Did you not know that had you fed him you would surely have found that (the reward for doing so) with Me? O son of Adam, I asked you to give Me to drink and you gave Me not to drink. He will say: O Lord, how should I give You to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: My servant So-and-so asked you to give him to drink and you gave him not to drink. Had you given him to drink you would have surely found that with Me.

Its our duty to help. Not just monetarily, but in action as well, we should be organizing food drives in our local areas and masjid, we should  be collecting clothes and other daily life items. We should be making Dua for them.

Because even though we have clothes, food, water and shelter, what if on the Day of Judgment we are left naked, hungry, thirsty and with out the shade of Allah because of our inability to help those who needed it once.

Seize this moment, seize this passion, sorrow or what ever emotion you are feeling for these helpless people and DO something about it. Don't let this be just another time when life just goes on. You are the change you want to create.
